What I (Ayce) learned today....

Ayce learned a lot of new things about driving a performance car, and in particular about driving Strokr's '89 Corvette.

Cherokee National Forest, Smoky Mountains, NC

  • learn to look beyond the traffic for objects in the road
  • a crushed beer can will still hit the underside of the car
  • large pieces of truck tire treads are know as Road Alligators
  • a large Road Alligator nearly ended our trip early south of Lexington
  • aggressive swerving to avoid objects in the road can be done at 70+ mph when the driver is given at least 1.2 seconds of warning
  • Corvettes have been manufactured and on the road since 1953; yet there are still people who come up to the car and want to know what kind of car it is
    • true story--- happened at Waffle House in Findlay, OH
  • sunscreen really works; if you don't miss a spot when applying
  • "You don't need no stinkin' brakes" - quotes Stroker.  Downshift!
  • speed bumps can be major obstacles - you have to literally drag the car across them-  scraping the x-cross-member in the process
  • signs that say "Exit ahead  - 20 MPH";  are best not taken at significantly higher speeds...especially by rookie drivers, piloting another man's car
  • Playing follow the leader through traffic with a Porsche 911 GT3 is FUN!
